SKU: meclfm/pers/001

A finely engraved, attractive and rare early 17th century map of Persia / Iran which was published in the Cloppenburg version of Gerard Mercator / Jodocus Hondius's Atlas Minor (Amsterdam: J. Cloppenburg, 1632 [Latin text edition]). An interesting feature of the map is the inaccurate depiction of the Caspian Sea which was still relatively unknown to Europeans at this time.
