A very attractive Victorian chromolithograph of the Green Gage Plum which appeared in James Anderson’s The New Practical Gardener (London, Edinburgh & Glasgow: William Mackenzie, 1875).

The Green Gage is a small, sweet dessert plum that originates from the Middle East. It was first cultivated in Europe during the reign of Francis I and then introduced to England in the 18th century by Sir William Gage.
