An attractive and rare early 17th century miniature map of Warwickshire and Leicestershire which was engraved by Pieter Van Keere and published in Gulielmi Camdeni, Viri Clarissimi Britannia (Amsterdam: W. Jansson [W. J. Blaeu], 1617).

The maps from this series were originally engraved in Amsterdam sometime between 1599 and 1605 by the the renowned Dutch engraver, Pieter Van Den Keere (Latin name: Petrus Kaerius). The plates were then issued in 1617 in an abridged version to Camden’s Britannia before finally coming into the possession the English publisher, George Humble (in c.1619) who published most of them in a ‘pocket atlas’ to accompany the larger Speed maps, hence the popular misnomer ‘miniature Speed’. The Warwickshire / Leicestershire map however, was not included and is subsequently very rare to find.
