An attractive and interesting mid 19th century engraving comparing the mountains and hills of Great Britain which was drawn and engraved byE. I. Smith and I. Dower, respectively, and published in [Thomas Moule’s] The English Counties Delineated (London: G. Virtue, 1837-1839). Interestingly, Ben Macdui, and not Ben Nevis, is shown as being the highest peak in Great Britain. At the foot of the engraving, Salisbury Spire and St. Paul’s Cathedral are shown in comparison to the hills and mountains, thus emphasising the omnipotence of nature over the achievements of mankind.
