A charming mid 19th century miniature engraving of Woolsthorpe Manor, near Grantham, Lincolnshire which appeared in Thomas Dugdale’s Curiosities of Great Britain. England & Wales Delineated (London c.1835-1860).
It was whilst staying at Woolsthorpe in 1665 that Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) carried out some of his most important experiments, most notably on light and optics. It is also generally accepted that it was here that he witnessed the apple falling from the tree thus inspiring him to develop his law of universal gravitation.
